What's involved when you audition for the Australian Ballet? What are you expected to do?

I do ballet and i'd love to audition for the Australian Ballet next in 2008, but i'm a bit unsure because i don't know how much experiance in learning ballet is needed. i've only done ballet for 4 years, but i have done tap and jazz too since i was 9.

i'm 16, is it too late for me to audition?

do i need to be on pointe already?

Getting into the Australian Ballet school is EXTREMELY hard. You will have to audition for the senior school as the junior school only accepts from ages 9-14.

Be prepared on auditioning with girls who have been doing extensive ballet training their whole lives....And yes you do need to be on pointe.

When you audition you first do a classical ballet class with a whole row of judges at the front. If you progress further you have to have a physical examination where they check every inch of your body. They are looking for potential, technical ability, artistry and physical suitability for classical ballet.

I'm guessing you will be in Year 11 next year? If you do get in you will leave school and start doing academic studies with the school.

Good luck, its going to be hard to get in...
