For you ballet dancers out there, how do you improve your turnout??

Im 13 and in June, im going to be taking lessons at my local professional ballet company. I want to do pointe, and one of the requirments is to hold a turnout while dancing. Do you reconmmend any exercises???

just strech your legs really good...my ballet teacher has us lie on our backs with our legs in the air and turn out as far as we can...you get a little further each time!

i recommend a fun excercise... like doing the cha cha or electric slide... an at home excercise i mean
Lay on your stomach with your legs like they would be if you were doing a butterfly stretch. They shouldn't be as close to your body as they would be in a butterfly though. The goal is to get first your toes, then heels to touch the ground. Once they do, move your legs closer to your body and keep going.
My turnouts turn great....I "spot" on the ceiling as I twirl around continuously.

Then my long legs wipper around like such, then land with a split
I'm not an expert at exercises you could do, but taking up Pilates surely could improve your turnout. In class you should always think about rotating the backs of the thighs and in less if you absolutely have to you shouldn't squeeze your fifth position more than what your amount of turnout will allow.
Practice, practice, practice --then go back to the barre and practice some more. Rond de jambes are good for turnout, or just going through the five positions and holding each one. Good luck with the classes!
