Where can I find great ballet flats similar to those at J.Crew?

i wear ballet flats every day and i especially love the ones at j.crew. i'm a classic prep so i like their flats with great, fun, preppy patterns and preppy colors. unfortunately, all the ones i like are $118 each and since i'm a shopoholic and need money to spend elsewhere, like at J.Crew on clothes, i can't quite afford that pricepoint. where else might i be able to find ballet flats similar to those at jcrew.com but at a more affordable price?

Use something by Tchaikovsky. You need to use music that you can count to which is so important in Ballet. Tchaikovsky wrote music especially for Ballet so that the dancers can hear the tempo and the counts.

I know it sounds bad, but it is pretty good.
It depends on what style of ballet that you are doing. Im assuming that your doing the traditional classical ballet. Try some of the Lord of the Rings songs, especially the one's performed by Enya. They are beautiful and it's something different from the very cliche nutcracker. Also the "Narnia" sonundtrack is beautiful.

Do your ballet flats hurt like mine? How do I stop the hurt?

For my birthday, which was 2 weeks ago, I got cute black and white floral ballet flats. I love them, they are the cutest. But after I wore them to school for a day I realized it hurt my ankles and I had blisters. I tried wearing these thin panty sort of things but it kept on hurting. How do I get them to stop hurting?

Do your ballet flats hurt like mine? How do I stop the hurt?symphony

Mine hurt me too when I first wore them. What I do to keep them from hurting me is I wear skin tone colored band-aids in the places where they hurt. The trick is to put them in spots where they don't stick out and ruin the whole outfit, but at the same time put them is a place where they will protect you from the shoes. Trust me this trick works every time!

In my ballet class we were working on battement d茅gag茅 and I constatly heard popping from my hip.?

I'm a newby at ballet. Is this a normal thing that will go away after lots of practice and stretching or could something be wrong with my hip?

It only occured on my left hip. I haven't had any physical problems previously.

In my ballet class we were working on battement d茅gag茅 and I constatly heard popping from my hip.?performing show

Hhhmm. That's weird. The best idea would be to talk to your teacher, but also one of the most important things is to keep your hips square(don't move them around). When your leg goes front, you should feel like your thigh bone is in the back of the hip socket, I'm not really sure how to explain. To get rid of the popping, you could also try holding your knee to the side and pulling it towards your shoulders, keeping your turnout(aka not sticking your butt out). Hope this helps!

In my ballet class we were working on battement d茅gag茅 and I constatly heard popping from my hip.?opera score opera theater

I know exactly what you mean. It feels like some kind of tendon or ligament moving around, right?

I had this problem when I started doing ballet. Make sure you use the muscles on the back of your leg to do battements, not just your quads. Also, work on stretching to improve your turnout; it'll loosen things up a little more. Hope this helps!
I pop a lot during warm up to. I think its normal. It hasn't bothered me. I think it feels good. It kind of feels like my joints are tight before they pop. I think its normal though.
Well I have bad hips so both of my hips pop all the time and hurt really bad,But i know those who dont have bad hips in my classes and theirs pop too the teacher said it was normal.
It could be that or you could be doing the step wrong. After one of your classes, go to your teacher and tell her what happened. Ask her if you can demonstrate the step for her. If you do something wrong, she will tell you what you are doing wrong.

Does dancing ballet or stretching your legs a lot affect your vagina's looseness & your not

Im a ballet dancer and i have dance classes like 4 times a week....does stretching almost everyday and being flexible affect how wide or lose my vagina is? and keeping in mind im not sexually active at all.. my bf was my 1st but when it happened he thinks i lied to him by saying i was a virgin..he said it seemed too "open"?..

Does dancing ballet or stretching your legs a lot affect your vagina's looseness %26amp; your not sexually active?getting late

First, I want to say that I am so sorry that this happened to you. I had a similar experience, and it was very hurtful when someone who I cared about and trusted with something that intimate and special asked me if I had lied to him. I hope that you are not blaming yourself or thinking there is something wrong with you, and I am going to give you some information that I hope will help both you and your boyfriend understand how the body works a little more.

There is a common myth that women who have not had sex all how "tight" vaginas, and that it can be stretched through sex or other activities. Women's vagina canals vary in size just like men's penis size. Some women are going to have a wider vaginal canal than others, and thus there may be less friction during sex than those who have narrower canals. Or your boyfriend is a bit narrower as some other posters have suggested. There are somethings (like childbirth) that can cause a woman's vaginal canal to stetch and not return to it's original size, but ballet is not one of those things.

It may also not have nothing to do with the physical build of either of your bodies. If your body provided a lot of lubrication naturally or you used a lubricated condom then there may have been a minimum of friction, which is also something that contributes to what people think is being "tight." (I am going to hope you used a condom. If not please do so in the future just for everyone's safety) The myth that women who have not had sex before have "tighter" vaginas is also perpetuated by the fact that often when women have thier first penetration experience they are not lubricated enough which can cause pain and possibly tearing. Being nervous, not having enough foreplay, or naturally being a women that lubricates less than others can contribute to this friction.

Now having all this information, I would suggest trying to sit down with him and explaining all of this in a non-sexual context and in a non confrontational way. Don't sit there and tell him that it is obviously that he has a small penis (men can get very threatened by that). Tell him that it you don't appreciate him accusing you of lying, and that you sought out some information to help you explian things so that you both understand what is going on with your bodies. Just give the facts. If it was a positive and enjoyable experience for you, you can even say that the fact that you were very turned on and so your body was relaxed enough to do what it is supposed to do. (the vagian canal is very elastic and should easliy be able to strech to accomodate an average sized or somewhat larger penis, given the right amont of lubricaton and foreplay.) By telling him this you can say that it was a really good experience and that he was a really good partner who made you turned on.

If he is not willing to listen to the realities that make up the ways sexual experiences can vary, and continues to believe that you are lying to him, then you might want to think about whether this is a positive and healthy relationship.

This can be a hard conversation to have, but you owe it to yourself to be as informed as you can and to do your best to talk to your partner and share that information.

Good Luck.

Does dancing ballet or stretching your legs a lot affect your vagina's looseness %26amp; your not sexually active?regal theater opera theater

I have to say this is the strangest question I've seen on here in a long time...

I don't think it would affect...that...much, if at all.
Sorry fellow guys, he most likely had a very small penis and that is what he said that...he would probably get beaten by a baby carrot...your not the one with the problem...dam!
No, that's completely ridiculous. Your ballet would most certainly not affect your vagina. Nothing will make it "wider' so tell your boyfriend to stop whining.
Yeah, your boyfriend's probably just a bit smaller than average. But no, no worries; while it is possible for a girl to break her own hymen by strenuous activity or a decently hard fall, it's still not likely, and you can only stretch your vagina by sticking some pretty huge things up there.

I ride horses, and I know that's a common problem among horseback riders- girls slam down on the saddle and it breaks them. It's not exactly dangerous, just a bit embarrassing.

I wouldn't worry about it. Average penis size among American males is about five and a half to six inches; I'd say you're probably just a bit bigger either than he's used to, or he's just smaller than average. I wouldn't worry about it too much; girls vary just as much as guys do in that department, and girls can be too tight as well as too loose.
Strangest question on this board ever.... anyway, your bf is full of shite (like he is some kind of gynecological "expert"). Dancing DOES NOT affect the dimensions of your private parts.

San francisco ballet school?

Hello

how many hours do students dance(maximum-minimum) for each class? plus rehearsal? how they learn general education? and about their weight? if anybody have experienced Sanf Francisco ballet school's life please share with me, i'm really intrested in that school.

San francisco ballet school?ballet

You know I haven't been to the school personally, however I did just read a book, an autobiography of a dancer that went to the San Francisco Ballet for most of her training, parts of the book are quite strange, however the insight that it gave me into the professional dancing world, especially that of the San Francisco ballet as well as companies in New York and the like was unparalleled. I would encourage you to read it, it's called " The Unmaking of a Dancer" By Joan Brady. It does skip around a little bit, but the general information in the book is good. As far as what I know personally about the school ( I live a couple hours away so I come into contact with dancers frequently who used to dance there or still do) and they tell me that the training there is very rigorous. You'll be dancing a lot, they expect a lot of you, however it really depends on what your going for, are you a guy or a girl? ( that makes a HUGE difference as men are in MUCH higher demand than women, and you are much more likely to get a job!) are you wanting to be professional and move on to the company or just doing it for fun and discipline? All these things are a factor, as are your height, weight, age and overall technique. It is a very hard school to get into so be sure to do all your research. Ballet is a tough world, so don't feel bad if you are rejected, everyone gets rejected hundreds of times in this industry before they finally get accepted, there are of course the lucky few who get in right away, but there are so many people trying to get in to these places that there is a lot of competition. Just remember that your best resource is the school itself, call the registrar and ask them what the Director is looking for, they usually can be a lot of help. I hope I was of some help to you ; ) Good Luck and Happy dancing!!!! Never give up!

HELP! Pointe Ballet...?state theatre opera theater

You cant do point yet you have to start in tec or soft shoes first to develop your strength or you could seriously hurt yourself! but do some point excerises it helps and ice your feet
Yeah! Aren't you excited? Everyone is nervous on their first class. But don't sweat it! No matter how much ballet training you have, pointe is something totally new. I'm sure your teacher will help you with everything. These first couple of days are very important. You need to pay attention and take every correction as a good thing. Years later, it is very hard to correct bad habits on pointe. You need to start out on a good foot (lol, no punt intended) Just relax you'll have fun in your first class. Break a leg!
you cannot be doing pointe. It takes mainy years of hard core ballet to do pointe.
wet the shoes first. Stop if you are hurting to much. WEAR TOE PADS!!! wash your feet in warm water affterwards. CONGRADULATIONS!!
Don't be nervous - and don't start with a bunch of information from people you don't know, who may or may not know what they are talking about. listen to your teacher. She will have a program planned out for you, taking you from one step to the next at a pace that will be right for you. Trust your teacher, enjoy your classes - and break a leg.

(that's the dancer's way of saying good luck)

Can you use pointe shoes for a ballet class?

I was out on injury from ballet/pointe for a couple years and now Im finally okkay to get back in but im taking a ballet class for a few months to "get back into it". I was just wondering if i would be appropriate to wear pointe shoes for the ballet classes.

Can you use pointe shoes for a ballet class?headache

I would ask your teacher. Say I would really like to get back on pointe, can I practice in class? If she lets you, it will probably be just for barre, but I'd clear it up with your teacher first.

Can you use pointe shoes for a ballet class?paramount theater opera theater

If it's not specifically a pointe class, no.
I would say no...

Unless it is a pointe class it would probably be inappropriate to wear pointe shoes...

Glad your healed so you can dance again though!
for like bar, yeah
I do sometimes, if my teacher allows it, but it is better to wear ballet shoes on days where you don't do point. Just so you can work your feet really good.
Depends on what type of class it is. If it's a pointe class then yes you can wear pointe shoes. Happy that your dancing again!!. Good luck!!! =D
Generally for a regular ballet class, no. Perhaps at barre.

Especially be carefull going back on pointe to fast before you regain strength back, because it's so easy to injure yourself. Talk to your teacher as to when you have enough strength to do pointe again!
Not if it isn't a specific pointe class, however, fi your teacher wants, you could wear demi pointes. Theyre shankless pointe shoes so you can't actually go up on them.
Not if you have been out a while, you will have lost alot of strength and may reinjur yourself

ballet? not really but nike on you tube has some awesome dance videos. also check your local gyms more and mre are starting to add dance classes to their work outs.

ballet is a good work out but doing the basics is not a cardio work out! if you want to lose weight do cardio check the nike classes in dvd and stretch out work on your ballet basics on the side. you wil have a huge advantage.
I have NYC Ballet Workout and I like it. I'm doing it for fitness and to improve my dancing in general, but ballet is not my main style. If ballet is your main style I'd be careful about DVDs unless they are recommended by your teacher. You can mess up your technique and style by learning incorrectly.

My main style is Ballroom. When I happen to watch DVDs labeled Ballroom or Latin **Workout** they look really bad. There are good training ballroom DVDs out there but they are not called workout. But people who don't dance Ballroom as their main style seem to like them. I'm wondering if it is the same with ballet.

I have been dancing for 9 years and i have just recently taken a break from ballet for about a year. Now, i have to buy new dance shoes. I normally wear a size 7 or 8 in womens normal shoes, what size do you think I should buy in ballet shoes?

I am looking for new ballet shoes and i don't know what size to get?globe theater

it depends on what brand you get... when you order them it will say something like true to size (order the same size u normally wear) or up 2 sizes from street shoe (order up 2 sizes) i would say go w/ being a size 8 b/c u can always tighten the strings and make them tighter but u can't make them bigger... good luck and happy dancing!!!!

I am looking for new ballet shoes and i don't know what size to get?oper opera theater

it depends what style you'd like to use. a bloch leather split sole, which i highly reccomend, you'll need like 3.5

a capezio full sole would be about half a size up. canvas usually runs whole sizes, so go up a size from street shoe. you may want to get fit for your first pair starting back.
You should go to a dance store and try some on! That way you will get the perfect fit. All the brands have different sizing charts/systems.
If you go to a store they can fit you for them, so you'll know exactly what size and everything you need. You don't have to buy them there. Remember what size and brand they were and you could even look on ebay or something.
go to a dance specialty store, they will fit them for you.

There is a discussion thread on Winter Intensives over on "Ballet Talk for Dancers" with a bit of information:

Your best bet for finding programs would be in Dance Magazine. I imagine that any winter programs would be advertising now, so be sure to pick up the latest issue.

Edit to add: Most intensive programs are for intermediate and advanced students, as it's much easier to find instruction for beginners closer to home.

thanks a bunch everyone:)

One last ballet question:)?opera ticket

Well, for one thing, I'm not sure if you can get on pointe before your hs graduation. Please choose dance centers, studios, ect very carefully. I owuld like to warn you now as a dancer that many studios will put dancers on pointe just because they want to. Be sure to go to a studio with good teachers.

You can stretch, get flexible.

Touch your toes, leam to side to side

Also practice pointing and flexing your toes, , making your legs straight.

You will ned strong ankels, legs, center and bakc

You can do crunches and try walking on tip toe for a while, or until your tighs burn

If you want strong ankles (which is a very important aspect you need to have to go on pointe) you should do releves on stairs or on a phone book.

basically a releve is going up and down from flat foot to demi pointe.

do this once a day for 5 min and you will have strong ankles before you know it.

the only real way to learn ballet properly is to take a class instructed by a trained and proffesional ballet teacher. you may find free videos on the internet to mimic but you will have no clue what your doing, what any of it is called, and you'll have no one to tell you if your doing it right. if you don't want to pay for classes maybe you have some friends that do ballet that could help you out. =)

How many ballet classes should i be taking a week at age 15 if i want to become a prima ballerina?

how many ballet classes should i be taking?

please only answer this if you really know!

How many ballet classes should i be taking a week at age 15 if i want to become a prima ballerina?sunshine

There is not an exact figure. I would say try 2-3 lessons a week and spend some time practicing too.

Why don't you get in touch with a performing arts college? See what the entry qualifications are and ask how much practice they recommend.

How many ballet classes should i be taking a week at age 15 if i want to become a prima ballerina?star theater opera theater

Ballerinas start at a very early age...as young as possible.

Studying ballet is a life long endevor. Very few make it. Since you are starting very late your chances of becoming a prima ballerina are very slim. BUT if you enjoy ballet then there is no reason not to study it. Find a school and talk to the ballet teacher...she will give you all the info you need. And good luck. Perhaps we will see you in the Nutcracker some day!
Well I would say at least 3, two ballet classes plus a pointe class. If you want to dance for a living then you should be applying for dance schools by now if you're 15, you're dance teacher should know the best ones ie Central that will take you at 16. And maybe think about an alternative, sorry to sound harsh but they are very hard to get in to, you have to be an exceptional dancer, plus of course the right shape, my daughter was told at 12 that although she's a really good dancer, she would end up being too tall, she's now 16 and 5'8" and at Performing Arts college in Bristol studying Musical Theatre and loving it so have a back up plan. Talk to your dance teacher, she will give you guidance and good luck hun
I found this on the net:

A ballet dancer can perform the difficult steps of ballet only after many years of hard training. The best age for a person to begin ballet lessons is when he or she is between 8 and 10 years old. A serious student--one who plans a professional dancing career--may be taking three to six lessons a week by the age of 12. Most dancers become professionals before they are 20, and retire by 45.

Basically, if you haven't started lessons by now, then you are probably too late.
I would say three ballet dance classes a week. These ballet dance classes will work on strength and technique. You should also take a couple of other styles of dance classes with the three ballet dance classes a week. I hope that I helped you out a little.
I started ballet when I was 11 (which is considered late), but there was a girl in my ballet company who didn't start until she was 15. It took her a while until she was ready for pointe shoes and company, but she is an excellent dancer. In order to be in a ballet company, they require me to take a minimum of four pointe classes a week. All ballet schools are different, though, I don't know haw many they'll allow you to take if you're just starting. But if you keep at it, you'd probably be ready for pointe shoes in about a year. If you want to become a prima ballerina, my advice is to take as many classes as you can and look for a good ballet school.
I take 4 a week but occasionally I'll get up to 7. To become a prima ballerina you also are going to have to leave school next year when you are 16. I only suggest becoming one if you're extremely committed. By the way, I am 14 and I'm also thinking of becoming a prima ballerina.

Hope this helped. :)
esentially its not how often u dance or how many dance classes u do but how hard you work!!!!!!!!!! i did really well and nearly got into central ballet - i had only been doing ballet once a week!

if you do dance to often you dont put as much effort in and a dancer who does it less often can look better for the fact there putting more effort in.

Generally 2-3 times a week is a gd amount to be doing ballet but if you cant afford it then u can always do ballet at home- practice, work hard and improve! hope this helped xxxx
Professional Ballerinas normally start at a very young age. If you want to become a professional then you need to train very hard. Most of the people who have already commented on your question said about 2-3 days. That's wrong. You need to train yourself very hard since you are starting at a older age. You need to take classes 5-6 days a week. It is very hard but you will learn faster and you will build your muscles quicker.

You should take a conditioning class as well as a ballet class. So if you can tone your muscles. Ballet will tone your muscles too, but if you take a conditioning class plus a ballet class you will get much stronger. I did not start dancing at an early age either. I started when I was 11 years old. But I took 5-6 ballet classes a week plus conditioning and lyrical. Withing 1 year of dancing I was already on pointe. (I'm not bragging I'm just telling you my experience) The other dancers in my class who did not take extra ballet classes int he week had been dancing for 6-11 years. And the people that were in my level had only been on pointe for 1 year.

My point is if you take extra classes you will get better faster.

Good Luck!
you should be doing a few hours of exercises every day - and proper classes at least two times a week.

although, if you aren't at a ballet school by now you might want to think about auditioning for them (if there's one that takes older students ... most want you to be 12 don't they?)
At 15 you should already know if you are "on track" to becoming a pro. How many classes you take depends on your level of talent. However, if you are on track to a profession, you should be taking minimum 12-15 hours/week in both technique, pairs, and pointe work at this point. This is not counting any time you spend rehearsing for upcoming performances. Realistically, you should already have had 2-3 summer dance schools with national companies (ABT, Joffrey etc.) and should already have been told by non-biased judges that you might have the talent to go professional. If this has not happened you really need to work harder and hope you have the talent to make it and/or take a good look at where you are and how much further you can realistically expect to go. You can ask your teachers, but they may or may not give you a totally objective answer - after all they want to keep you in their school and paying tuition. Literally thousands of young women work to become professional ballerinas but very, very few ever make it and most of those never get out of the corps de ballet. Careers are generally short with so-so pay and constant battles with weight, injuries and struggles to stay healthy. You will read lots of posts that tell you that "You can do anything you want if you want it badly enough"....this is not true unfortunately - you will be eventually limited by your talent (or lack thereof) and no amount of work will improve things. Now I realize that I may have thrown a lot of cold water on your dreams, but this is the real world and just because you may not have the talent to become professional is no reason to quit. You can dance in college, high school and in amateur productions, and dance can stay part of your life almost forever. Good Luck.
I hate to break it to you but prima ballarinas become that at tyhe age of 17 at the latest so unless you are margot fontein it is probably really hard to start now. Good Luck
i started ballet at age 3 and i am now 11. i currently take 4 lessons a week. my friends who are 15 and do ballet take about 5 per week. but if you really wanted to be a prima ballerina you should already be going to a full time ballet school such as white lodge. but you should ask your ballet teacher. you need to start taking some auditions if you want to get serious about ballet at such a late stage.

hate to break it to you but the chance of you becoming a prima ballerina is extremely low. but i still wish you the best of luck!!!!
About 6 on day of ballet studies 3 and 3 repertory.

I want to go in ballet at 17.?

I'm 17 and I want to go in ballet.

Not competetivly, not as a future career, I just want to be a pretty ballerina %26lt;3

It litterally kills me inside.

I can barely listen to classical music because I want to be a ballerina so bad.

So, my question is; What happens to someone who's 17 and joins ballet. What do they go through?

Are they put in a class with small children, or are they put with other beginners like themselves?

How quickly do they transfer to pointe on average?

And basically any other info you can give me would be awesome ^.^

Thanks so much!!

I want to go in ballet at 17.?musicals

I think you would be put into a class of a range of ages, but girls who are all starting ballet late. Depending on your flexibility, turn out, and natural ability, you will be moved to different levels of classes as you develop more skills. It will still take at least three years of ballet training before you would be able to attempt pointe, because you need to develop the supporting muscles in your legs and feet. But if you want to dance ballet, even reacreationally, you should enroll in classes, and enjoy everything that you learn!

I want to go in ballet at 17.?opera songs opera theater

Ballet classes are brutal physically and god awful expensive. But if you've got the drive and the will I say go for it.
I dunno what class you would be in but I say do it. You only have one chance to live and ballet is so pretty. Even if you are doing spins with 2 year olds, one day you will be awesome and it will feel great that you took the chance.
There are many studios with beginner classes for adults. You need to work on flexibility, if you aren't flexible already, and you learn basics with other adults. Nothing to be ashamed of.. never too late to start something you love!

Well your feet are already almost fully developed and you are not going to go en pointe for a long time unless you catch on really fast but even then, not likely.

Try out a few classes at different studios and see if you like it as much as you think you would. Good luck :)
I did exactly what you did. I just signed up for an adult class at my local rec center. Sometimes a community college offers adult beginning ballet too. At these places, classes aren't very expensive either. I don't remember how much I paid altogether, but overall each class was about $5. I think that's excellent that you want to do that. Good luck!
well im 13 and iv been in ballet since i was 2 years old. you might have to be with a begginers class. and it takes about 4 years of training until you can get on pointe(i know thats long but for a person your age thats just starting...well...)

in now in juliards dance co. of NY and im on the top 20 list of best adolesent dancers in america. they put you through ALOT! the donnabee person is entirely right!

some advice....just be prepared to stretch and do the splits in every direvtion and do a double even tripple pirouette.
some studios sort by beginner, intermediate, advanced...(these are the best ones) othes sort by age...this isn't as good because then if someone is new they hold others back.

but you sound like you have the drive that you will be good and not one of those girls if that is the case...

if you are placed with smaller girls, thats fine, they will look up to you, and you will most likely progress through the classes at a semi-quick pace so that your with people more your own age.. im the oldest girl in my class, everone else is at least a year younger haha. so i wouldn't worry about it.

it is slightly more difficult to train your body after it's "set". you have to technically retrain it and this can be kind of brutal, it normally involves some pain i have to admit...especially if your teacher wants you to be the best you can be.

to start pointe...if you just start at 17, as soon as you get really good ankle, arch, foot, and leg muscles AND with that good technique, your teacher will begin to consider you for pointe, you have to patient though, don't expect anything to quickly, great ballet takes a lot of practice, pain, and time.

thats why we are so tough and still look like pretty ballerinas and it looks practicaly effortless.

good luck and happy dancing!
You've got mostly good answers so far except that ballet classes are NOT "brutal" and if you are diligent and not overweight, you could be on pointe in a few months - NOT a few years.....
i believe there are studios that have classes meant for adult beginners. since you are joining for leisure. you can look out for free-syllabus adult beginners lessons which normally is held 1hr per week.

free-syllabus means the lesson content does not follow a syllabus.

you are never too late to start. and if you join an adult class, you will be having a class with adults. no worries for that. :)

in the class, you will probably go through some basic exercises and you get to learn about the names of the steps/exercises.

you wont be transfer to pointe if you are taking free-syllabus lessons.
i dont have any background in ballet but i know for sure that they will put u with other beginners like yourself. at my dance stuido u have to be at a certain grade in ballet to move onto pointe.

Can people with flat feet still perform ballet?

I danced for 5 or 6 years when I was younger, taking courses in ballet, tap, and jazz. I didn't go to the most complex dance school, but I love dancing and the arts. I would love to get back into it. However, my feet are flat, and I'm worried I will never be able to take ballet. When I was in dance, my teacher promised us pointe shoes, but we never got them. I don't know how I would have done. Ballet and tap are my favorites. Also, are there any free dancing studios out there where you can learn?

My brother had flat feet, he took ballet, tap, jazz, modern etc. He went to school and became a teacher. When he started to teach his girls pointe he decided he needed to teach in pointe shoes. When he did he noticed he started to get a arch.

But, it takes years of training and your teacher decision for you to start pointe, usually your 13, 'cause the bones in your feet have fused.

As for free I know when my dad got laid off my studio let us work it of, cleaning the room, answering phones etc.

you can absolutely succeed in ballet with flat feet regardless of what someone on here is going to tell you. i have like miniscule arches and ive danced for 21 years. ther are people with fantastic arches who are idiots about the way they dance, and roll over their first time on pointe, bust their achilles, and never dance again. its your heart, not your feet.

Question about ballet and pointe?

An acquaintance of mine said that she has never taken ballet, but she is starting to learn en pointe??? I'm not a dancer but as far as I know... that is impossible.

Is she lying or can you just start learning en pointe right away?

Question about ballet and pointe?concert tickets

I think you can start learning en pointe right away but it's not good for your body or your feet. It's really hard, takes tons of work and may destroy your leg strength and balance if you aren't careful...

Question about ballet and pointe?theater seating opera theater

You can't. If she is it's going to be really bad for her feet.
Yes you have to take ballet before they let you start pointe but if she transferred ballet schools and lied I guess it is possible.
no, you can't, unless your in a really really advanced class
I've been dancing for 10 years...and pointe for 4 years....HELL YEA shes lying...
Well technically no she shouldn't be learning it. you don't dance on point until you have trained for like 3 years at the very least. you have to build up an immense amount of strength in your feet, and legs.

if she is young there is no way any teacher would teach her on pointe because it can damage your feet.

if she is older, there is a possibility she could be doing it... but it's doubtful

I did ballet for 10 years before i went on pointe, and i ended up quitting in my 11th year. i just recently went back and i only dance pointe like 15 minutes out of an hour, because i'm not as strong as i used to be.

i would say she is lying.
Ohmygoodness please don't let her.

Unless you want her to break her feet.

Seriously, you can get really injured doing pointe work without training.
LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE! haha its bad for your feet and her feet wont be strong enough
You can't start with point. You have to build up to it with at least a few years of ballet experience. I hope she is lying or else she could hurt herself.
I guess technically it is possible, but it is also an incredibly bad idea. You need strength, which you can get from dance training, and also some basic knowledge of ballet (like positions and vocabulary) would help a lot.

I think it has to do a lot with safety and strength and stuff, so therefore ballet training before pointe is the way to go.
you can if youre teacher is an absolute idiot. she neeeds at least SOME technique or she's going to get hurt.
well, yes and no. first she would need to take some basic technique classes, but some people just go straight into pointe, you can but, that really isn't the proper way because usually, she won't now the basics and she might end up hurting herself.
It is pretty much impossible. She could completely screw up her feet for life if she didn't prepare her ankles and feet the right way in ballet!! You should really confront her!
You can't. In order to start pointe, you must have at least a few years of ballet training, and you've got to be strong enough. I would tell your friend that she should stop, because she could seriously hurt her feet that way (as in never dance again.)
that is impossible! even if she would hurt her ankle , she would not have strong enough ones! tell her she is wrong or ask her if maybe she means ballet slippers!
nope she can't. and if she does she will hurt her ankles. even when someone is reallyreally muscular, without proper dance training there is not a chance of them learning to do pointe.

just strech your legs really good...my ballet teacher has us lie on our backs with our legs in the air and turn out as far as we can...you get a little further each time!

For you ballet dancers out there, how do you improve your turnout??london theatre opera theater

i recommend a fun excercise... like doing the cha cha or electric slide... an at home excercise i mean
Lay on your stomach with your legs like they would be if you were doing a butterfly stretch. They shouldn't be as close to your body as they would be in a butterfly though. The goal is to get first your toes, then heels to touch the ground. Once they do, move your legs closer to your body and keep going.
My turnouts turn great....I "spot" on the ceiling as I twirl around continuously.

Then my long legs wipper around like such, then land with a split
I'm not an expert at exercises you could do, but taking up Pilates surely could improve your turnout. In class you should always think about rotating the backs of the thighs and in less if you absolutely have to you shouldn't squeeze your fifth position more than what your amount of turnout will allow.
Practice, practice, practice --then go back to the barre and practice some more. Rond de jambes are good for turnout, or just going through the five positions and holding each one. Good luck with the classes!

Well dance your heart out, you might need to wait a while to deal with scholarships, but keep looking, if you can become like Sterling Scholar in high school or whatever the equivalent it is there, then go for it, just train long and hard and you can do it!
Over the summer work hard on everything bar stretches routines turns splits and point when classes roll around do your very best and show that you are working hard
A lot of other schools outside your country like in Britain and the U.S have scholarship programs where you would study and live at the school. This can be for a few months or a summer. You would need to audition.

How to tie a perfect ballet bun?

My daughter has joined a ballet class. I do not know how to tie a ballet bun. Please help. Thank you.

How to tie a perfect ballet bun?opera songs

Okay, this is how I wear my hair every day! First, (obviously) pull it into a ponytail. Nice and tight (but not too tight, you dont wanna keep the poor girl from blinking) Then fan it out her pontail evenly and start twisting it into a bun, clockwise... starting at 12 and twisting it all the way around until you have a nice tight bun. Then you can either secure it with hair pins and pinning it all over being careful not to poke her in the scalp (it may not hurt immediately, but a half hour later, it gives the worst headache) or you can use another hair band, and wrap it around the base of the bun so that it secures the hair from un twisting! And here you have yourself a perfect bun!

However, just so you know, unless her ballet studio is extremely strict, its usually not neccesary for her hair to be in a bun, as long as it is out of her face, a pony tail or french braid should work just fine!

Yes most ballet school auditions are done in groups it is normally a normal ballet class but you might not get to stay for the whole thing. Some ballet schools run their auditions much like auditions for a play or a musical. They might kick you out half way through or keep you to the end but either way the competition is very intense.

It depends on what level you are auditioning for. Most auditions start with a group class at the barre, then individual center. Teachers look for line, line, line, then flexibility and technique. You are never too old to take ballet. Now if you are asking whether its too late for a possible career in ballet the answer is maybe. You will have to have TONS of talent, a fantastic teacher, a great school and a lot of determination because competition for female ballet jobs is intense. Good Luck

Am i too late to start taking ballet lessons?met opera opera theater

You're never too old to start doing anything!!! Go for it!
If you're pretty good at jazz, it'll be easy to catch onto ballet...you just have to be flexible! Don't worry if you didn't taken proper lessons when you were young. If you want to take up ballet and probably continue it as maybe a coureer or anything like that, make sure you have the muscels in your legs, because when it comes to ballet, you need the muscels so you can do all the turns, jumps etc.
Never to late to experience something have a passion for. That right there is a head start. If you don't do it now, you may later have regrets. I should had, what if, if only and so on.

If you wish to perform in theatrics, especially musicals or dance concerts ballet training is a much. Most professional actresses/actors, performers on Broadway and of course dancers studied ballot.

Ballet teaches and develops various techniques in the performing arena such body alignment, placement, systematize body counts, poise and much more. Did you know that most different forms of dance movement deviated from ballet. If you want to be a good/great dancer you need ballet training to develop basic dance techniques.
No you are enough young to start dance maybe you won't be at prima ballerina at one of the greates ballet companies BUT you can joint to a professional local ballet company and perform at pro level cause you are young and flexible for that, I suggest you to find one or some professional ballet companies in your town or near your town that offer ballet lessons, they are usually the best and you'll have the chance to joint , if you work hard as I am sure you'll do it, to their ballet young company.. JUST DO I T AND ENJOY BALLET I am sure you'll succeed!!
it's never too late
i am 18 and ijust started ballet again. My classes when i was younger were not 'proper' ballet classes. Yes we learned everything but we mainly concentrated on our dance for the end of year recital. This year, i started at a new studio. It is a 'proper' balet class.

It is never too late to start what you already want to do.
You can be good at anything if you love it. I have been taking dance class since I was eight and I am better then some of the people who have been taking it since they were three. So it doesn't matter which age you start as long as you are a deticated dancer then you will be great. Good luck!
Of course not! I started when I was 12 and I was on pointe the next year!

I love this fashion on girls. I have gone out a few times in leggins and ballet flats to the mall, and have gotten a few compliments. Girls is this ok for a guy to wear? I think it is

Leggins and ballet flats?theatre tickets

In general, unless you *like* having people oggle your package all the time in public, I wouldn't suggest it. The whole 'trend' of leggings and ballet flats only looks good on women because it plays up a slender, demure image.

So, again, unless you are going for a feminine look, stay far far away. If you want comfortable clothes, at least wear sweatpants and some moccasins or house shoes or something.

Leggins and ballet flats?opera house opera theater

hahahahahaha, you made my day just thinking about it. Yes I guess guys can wear it.
NO!
If you are gay thats another story.. unless you are a proffessional ballet dancer performing there then its not a good look..
NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO guys like that r ****************************************... beeep*********@%#!@$%26amp;%%^%26amp;()^(*^_%%26amp;*^)%26amp;*%...

SORRRRRRRRRY hey thats just 4 me
yeah! i think it's great. my only suggestion is maybe only one at a time, if you wear both it might be kind of a trend overload. it will be okay as long as don't wear an EXTREMELY trendy top and accessories. i'm sure lots of people wanna get their pic taken with you!!
Not to be rude but i wouldn't want to go to the mall with a cross dresser..men can't wear girls clothing...i know that you are a human being but still come on....some clothes are meant for girls and some are meant for boys. but if you really like girls clothing then wear a pink tee...anyways ballet flats and leggings were made for girls and should only be worn by girls...

sorry...%26lt;3
um, i don't think so. but thats just ME. it probably looks different, funky - but i wouldn't want my man wearing that specific girl look. if it fits you, then wear it. you might have that persona' to pull it off, otherwise - leave it to the girls :/
NO WAY!!! i'm sorry but that would look VERY ODD AND WEIRD!!!!
no
you're silly.
umm...yea sure go ahead.... =)
NO plz noo!!
no offense but.... are you gay or what?!

hello?? leggings? ballet flats? on a guy's body?

no way!!

sorry to say that... just tryin' to say my opinion... =)
i wear ballet flats too! they are hyper confortable and really chic

i wouldn't dare ware leggings outside of like yoga class or ballet class (both of which i take)

+ i am also straight

my girlfriend loves me in her knee high black leather boots :) + pretty much nothing else

omg omg omg

U R NOT A CROSSDRESSER

girls ALL GIRLS are cross dressers and shoved us into an unfamiliar steryotype

they STOLE our pants, shirts, tees, they should be strapped into Victorian gowns instead of critisizing you for wearing leggings and ballet flats

look and Louis XVI of France he wore leggings and high heels everyday of his life! we should be allowed to do the same

girls need to shut up and understand that if they want to keep the right to vote they shouldn't further HORRIBLE steriotypes

+ THE BEST FASHION DESIGNERS ARE MALES i think we know what we're doing when WE choose what to wear

Boxing AND Ballet?

Well, I'm going to start ballet next year, but, boxing has always been my 2nd dream. I'm 12, so I can wait... but, I really want to start. I'd also feel selfish if I did, because our family isn't make of money! Should I presuade them to let me do both, or wait for boxing?

Thanks!

Boxing AND Ballet?hollywood theater

Ballet will help your balance a heap.. and will often make a good fighter. Its also fantastic for your footwork. So stick with the ballet for a few years yet, and if your 15-16 and still keen on this boxing caper, give it a shot.

Boxing AND Ballet?opera.com opera theater

if you want to be pretty girl don't do boxing. cuz i don't think that broken nose will look good on your face
do ballet, it will probably help with footwork for boxing. Boxing can wait, it will always be there and should be practiced when your body is able to take the punches. But whatever you do, do not do the ultimate fighting or wrestling.

Aerobics or Ballet?

What works magic on body more Aerobics or Ballet?

Aerobics or Ballet?soap opera

i do aerobics and i do ballet. I started both sort of recently but im a natural dancer (not to compliment myself) i have good flexibility for a guy. Actually today i just had a 7 hour aerobics workshop for nationals which im competing in this year. and then i had ballet after. Ballet is not as heart racing as aerobics at lower grades but when u get into higher grades it really works your legs particularly. Ballet teaches you grace, flexibility, balance and its more flowing.

Aerobics is more like jazz/gymnastics with lots of jumps(split jumps, straddle jumps, pike jumps, tuck jumps, wolf jumps which is 1 leg in pike and one in tuck)

leaps(jetes which is a step ball change then split jump, switch jetes or russians which is step ball chance split jump except the leg infront swings to the back so u change splits i mid air and also forwardsplit-straddle jumps)

pushups (like 1 handed pushups, tricep hinges, bicep pushups, ect ect)

and also jumps to floor (straddle jump and land in pushup also known as a shushunova. tuck jump into pushup ect) and u also do things like lifts which is where u hold urself in straddle and then push up with your hands until feet and legs are off the ground, u also do the same for pike. and also planches.

For me at this moment i would say aerobics works me more but i love dance. They both compliment each other. if your looking for burning calories and getting fitter and ripping out some pretty rad tricks i would say aerobics but if your looking for grace, style, beauty and flow i would say Ballet

Hope i helped!

Aerobics or Ballet?city opera opera theater

Well, they both are beneficial!

Aerobics is more robotic feeling, and ballet lets you express yourself through movement while you burn those calories!

You build muscle and resistance in both.

Ballet works on balance, focus, and stamina.

Aerobics builds muscle, stamina, and ocassionally balance.

Both would be great though! I'm a dancer and we have a specified class to work out and stay fit! Working out is great for you physically, emotionally, and mentally!

=D
Ballet. it also gives you rhythm.
Not sure exactly what you mean by magic.

One thing to note is that while taking ballet should slowly increase ones flexibility over time, and you can gain some strength and balance over time; taking an actual ballet class is NOT very aerobic. One will not burn a lot of calories as a ballet class has a lot of standing around in between combination. The teacher will give or demonstrate what steps, movements, and counts are. They will also stop to give correction or to talk to the whole class. The first half of class is done at the barre and most of those exercise are not overly long or taxing. Then the fist part of center is more about slowing developing the balance. It is not until the last 25% of a class where ones starts to do some jumps and move across the room. And even those combinations are done in small groups so you stand around for a little while waiting for your next turn. In addition, most ballet schools do not have a lot of lower level ballet classes for students every day.

Even at the highest levels of ballet class the format and structure is the same. Most professional ballet dancers are skinny because they have to be in order to keep their job. It also helps that they spend their entire day in classes and rehearsals; up to 9 hours a day.

So if you are looking to get your body in shape quickly, a balanced routine of aerobics class several times a week (3-5) will probably get you there more quickly than ballet classes.
i do ballet and i love it!!
Ballet definitley because it not only gives you a toned body but it teaches you how to discipline your body and it also works your mind
i do both. aerobics 2 keep my weight...yadda yadda.. in check. n i do ballet for fun..

basically, aerobics is a form of exercise. meaning its aim is 2 improve your heart etc. here, u'll be aiming 2 sweat a lot...

ballet is to express yourself, its a soulful form of art. it improves your poise and makes u you look graceful..

so...if u can, tk up both...u'll nv regret it

Cost of Ballet School?

Parents, how much do you pay for tuition to a good Ballet school? I am in Edmond, Oklahoma so I don't know that there are any excellent schools here. Aside from tuition, what are the monthly costs to you? How often is practice?

Cost of Ballet School?extension

i'm not a parent but i am a student at a ballet school

-the tuition is about $250 a month for 4-5 classes each week

-other expenses include leotards, tights, shoes, costumes, etc... lets just say the sums add up

-its expensive if you are serious about it

Do gold ballet flats go with this?

Do gold ballet flats go with this?secure browser

sounds like everything would mesh together, sure. keep the gold to minimum. with the gold falts, i'd keep the jewlrey to a gold bangle or a gold cuff bracelet. don't wear a gold necklace or big earings, keep it simple.

Yeah, why not! ;-) I think it sounds like a cute outfit.

yes its so cute
YESSS. cute outfit!!
i think brown flats, or black would go better but i guess gold ones are ok

it doesnt really match that well with the orange though
It'll look awsome.
yea!!
little too much orange and gold. mix and match! have fun! and why dont u just try them on, u know your stlye better than anyone else....
OMG you should totally wear that it sounds soooo cute!!
sure! it's bright and cute :)
I think it would go nice, if the jeans are a dark wash and maybe if you threw on a gold necklace or something. ^_^

That outfit would look very nice unless you have red hair. If you do, i suggest a different color shirt that does not clash with red. If you have blond hair, i recommend a dark colored coat/jacket/hoodie to compliment the outfit. If you are brunette, then it should look fine!

^_^

Hope this helped
Yes! It would look really cute.

Hope I Helped!
It's a little too bold for my taste, but it sounds fine.

Personally, if I was putting it together, I would wear 'beigey tannish' flats, because I prefer matching clothes, to an extent.
yes, thats hot. the tan, orange, and gold are still in the same family, plus matchy-matchy isnt cute right now. when you mix it up it shows you have confidence. if you personally lack confidence with an outfit like that it will look like your trying too hard, but if you have confidence and it shows... you'll look hot, and people will say to themselves, "hey thats cute, i would have never thought of putting that together!"
it could, but i personally HATE gold, i would go for silver flats for a more sparce look plus it makes u look young =) gold is just too much, maybe evn where some flip flops
yes sounds nice, keep accecorze to a minimum!
i don't think the gold goes with the orange shirt

unless maybe it has gold on it
goes perfectly

Whats the name of the ballet in The Simpsons?

In the simpsons episode called "Marge on the lam" where she wins tickets to the ballet but homer gets his hand stuck in a vending machine so she goes with her neighbour, whats the name of the song played by the orchestra in the ballet? Ive seen it on other TV shows where two people will catch each others eyes and time will slow down and the music plays as they fall in love.

En pointe (ballet)?

i just started ballet again....i'm 15 so i wondered if there might be any chance to be able to go en pointe later on?

En pointe (ballet)?met opera

of course ull be able to go on pointe later but not now..ur ankles must be strong. since ur 15 u mite go on sooner b/c ur ur bones in ur feet are almost to the pointe of not growing anymore. but ya just work really hard in class :) ur going to be a great dancer its just going to take a lot of sweat to get there! well i hope this helps!

En pointe (ballet)?movie theatre opera theater

yep of course just make sure that your ankles and feet are strong enough and you can go on
Maybe. Depending on your earlier training, technique, number of classes and studio. I suggest working on strengthening your ankles and feet by doing lots of one footed releves. Keep dancing!
Of course! You just have to work really hard and strengthen your feet. Then in about 6 months (time depending on how fast your feet stengthen) ask your instructor if you are ready to go en pointe.
absolutely- just work really hard on building up your strength, balance, and concentrattion and you should be able to go on pointe within one or two years. Good luck!
Ofcourse! Talk to your teacher and let her know that is what you want to do. She will be able to tell you and show you how to work on strengthening your ankles. Definitely let her know you are interested so she can keep an eye on you. She may notice that you are ready before you would think to go back and ask! Good Luck!
Yeah, eventually. You're going to have to wait three years most likely, unless you quit recently.

How are ballet socks different from regular socks?

some male ballet dancers wear socks with footless tights. are those just regular socks or are they different? i have a pair of footless tights that i want to wear to dance next week so i was just wondering.

How are ballet socks different from regular socks?opera.com

They are exactly the same as regular socks. Just try to get 'low cut'. And what color tights are you wearing? Cause the guys at my school where black tights and white t-shirts (I thought you might like that better then pink!).

How are ballet socks different from regular socks?amc theatre opera theater

they are much thinner and have different meterials then normal socks if you want some they have all kinds of colors for you maybe marron or black or maybe white you could try red too depending on your outfit like i think you should wear like a white t-shirt with marron or black or white tights or leggings and like white or marron or red or black or whatever looks good you can get those socks from any dance or ballet store or walmart or anywhere like that. I think normal socks are more compy but that is my opinion well good luck

im some what flexible, does ballet lessons cost alot?

I have many questions about ballet.?city opera

you aren't too old, but you couldn't go professional. as far as the money goes, it depends on the studio that you select. Flexibility is a good quality to have for a dancer, but it won't make you fantastic. if you are flexible, it will just make you have high leg extensions and it will give you more of a stretch. good luck on your dancing!

I have many questions about ballet.?performing shows opera theater

At 18, you can start, but might not be able to do pointe work, but i am not sure. Flexbility is very good, you will mostlikly work on dat in ur class. Cost.....it depends on where you go, classical ballet, might cost more, for me i am 14, i do ballet and Jazz and it is about 358.00 per term (sept-jan and jan-may) It is soo much fun! good luck!
To be a professional dancer unfortunately yes you are too old. But it's not too late for you to start a class just to gain a skill and enjoy dancing. Flexibility will come with progress but it's good that you are already "somewhat" flexible. Ballet lessons aren't too much, you just need to look around different schools. The things you need for ballet are often the bit people find the most expensive such as uniform and the shoes. Good luck though! Ballet is great!
I take ballet 3 times a week, Modern 1 time a week, and jazz 1 time a week...and it is 280 something a month.
18 is not too old just to dance. I just recently started ballet and I'm 30! As for cost, it depends on who you take lessons from. If it is a concern, you may look into getting lessons through a local community center. That's probably one of the most cost effective routes. Other options are through a local college, or through a dance school. Once you start taking a class, you may also consider talking to the teacher as well for recommendations.
No you are not too old. You will probably be put in an adults beginners class. The class could be anywhere between $10-$20 and goes for 60-90 minutes usually.

I hope this helps :)

Could my three-year-old where his ballet shoes to and from class if he wears a pair of Crocs over th

I asked earlier if my son could wear his ballet slippers to and from class and promptly received a dozen "no" answers. I was wondering, could we get his socks and shoes on for dance at home and them have him slip on a pair of Crocs that's a little bigger than his shoe size to allow space for the ballet shoes? Or would that somehow dammage the ballet shoes? Thank-you!

Could my three-year-old where his ballet shoes to and from class if he wears a pair of Crocs over them?passions soap opera

A couple of my students who are 6-7 wear crocs over their ballet shoes. I don't have a problem with it because it saves a lot of time and parents don't have to come inside the studio to help their child put on their shoes.

It wouldn't ruin the ballet shoes and 3 year olds grow so fast that you will probably have to replace shoes quickly anyway.

I recommend that you do it. Its easier for you, your son and their teacher.

Hope this helps :)

Could my three-year-old where his ballet shoes to and from class if he wears a pair of Crocs over them?mr messed up opera theater

He could as long as their is something protecting them, but i am a big believer in keeping them protected in a bag.
no that should be fine.. but it does depend on how far he has to walk. if its just say from the car into the studio its perfectly fine and should not damage the ballet shoes.
i guess he could. just as long as he doesnt get rocks or anything in his shoes that could hurt his ballet shoes, im sure that would be fine.
hes three years old! of course he can! my suggestion is to put socks over his slippers, just so anything doesnt get on them, because they are expensive and high quality. As long as hes not using them as street shoes its ok! hes not a professional yet- theres nothing wrong with that! go ahead, put on the crocs and socks
If the crocs are over used then you dont want him to do that. But i dont think there's any harm in it if the crocs are only around the house shoes and to get him to dance classes.
That would totally be fine. The crocs won't tear up the canvas or leather of the shoe, and he won't trail dirt into the studio. Plus, kudos, you realize (unlike girls at my studio that try to squish their slippered feet in their tennis shoes) that the crocs actually need to be able to accommodate for the shoes.

Yeah, it should totally be great.
probobly but only if hes protected with somehting on top. if not his shoes and his feet will get hurt if he steps on a tiny pebble.
of course!
Yes it is fine, i mean he is three so i am sorry to tell you his feet are probably going to grow out of the shoes faster than he can reck them. as long as the bottom of the shoe is covered, that should be great!!!

Hope this helps!

and if you have any other Q's about ballet or any type of dance email me at:

dancingstar7@gmail.com
If thats the easiest and afstes way to get him dressed for class, go for it! As long as he isnt on sidewalk with them, tis fine, and you wont have to do the "rush and dress" when he gets to the studio!
Oh my God! Don't let your kid wear CROCS!! Want him to lose toes? In China 10 people lost their toes or parts of their feet because their CROCS got stuck in the escalator!!!! Don't let him wear CROCS unless of course you would want him to have 9 toes.
